Imagine Buenos Aires life as a young port town.
During the 17th century, San Telmo was known as "San Pedro Heights," home to the city's growing contingent of ship workers. It was Buenos Aires' first industrial area. In the late 1800′s yellow fever forced the residents to move to other places, and it was during this time that Tango was born.
San Telmo hosts fantastic Spanish architecture and patios on every block, where most of the buildings are almost 200 years old. A lot of Buenos Aires nightlife is concentrated in this district including some of the most interesting restaurants and bars and tango shows.
It hosts a very special antique market outside on Sundays at Plaza Dorrego. Items dating back to the late 1800′s can be purchased. In fact this entire neighborhood in Buenos Aires is home to some of the most interesting antiques in the world.
For: People who like history, architecture and tango.
