A horseback journey to Nagorno-Karabakh
Come on a horse-riding trip to the most high-mountain region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, where we’ll spend 8 days in the steep gorges among bustling rivers and springing geysers, on peaks over 3000 meters high!
Karvajar highland is astonishingly stretched and hard-to-reach, so our horses will be our key co-travelers. We’ll be able to reach the places where even local hunters hardly ever appear. It is not necessary to have horse-riding experience as we’ll spend the first day getting the basics of correct and safe horse riding and learn to understand the horse psychology.
We’ll spend at least 4 days out of 8 on horseback. We’ll stay in tents through most of the trip and we’ll stay at locals’ houses when in the villages. Our meals will include exclusively tasty and natural food made of rural products; this is so highly appreciated and surprising for the city inhabitants.
The territories of today’s Karvajar (Nor-Shahumyan region of NKR) have not been explored well enough yet even by the Karabakh people. Brutal military battles, good hunting, the curing hot spring water and the best mountainous honey in Karabakh – these are the most common associations for this area.
Only about a dozen villages are nowadays inhabited of over a hundred pre-war villages. The area is a bit isolated but nevertheless its population is slowly coming back and the villages are being restored. The local nature is quite beautiful and differs from the other regions of Karabakh and Armenia.
