This excursion also starts with a drive up the Placencia peninsula and up to the mountain district of Cayo where we will find the town of San Ignacio nestled in the Maya Mountains. From there we will cross two great rivers, the Macal and the Mopan Rivers. One on them we will cross via a quaint old-fashioned car ferry, one of the few still operating in Belize.
Upon arriving at the majestic Mayan Ruins of Xunantunich, which means ‘Maiden of the Rock’, your knowledgeable local guide will give you a thorough 2-hour tour of these mystical ruins, and tell of the great history of the mysterious Mayan people. We’ll then lunch at a local Belizean restaurant.
Then it’s time to cool off! We head for The Blue Hole National Park. This is a limestone cave formation filled with water that reflects an incredibly blue color-hence the name. This geological formation is part of the massive Belizean cave system that has been largely unexplore. Here we take a swim and view this natural wonder.
