Video Verified

A leisurely walking tour through old Surabaya, taking you first to the Tanjung Perak harbor, where traditional pnisi teakwood schooners can be viewed, and on to the historic Red Bridge area which was the commercial center from the early 1800s to mid-1900s. There are a number of fine buildings designed by Dutch architects to view and enter here. We will also visit Chinatown and the Arab Quarter and enter one of Surabaya’s oldest food markets, Pasar Pabean. It will also include a visit to an interesting old clove cigarette factory and museum, and a mid-19th century Chinese temple. This tour is offered all year round.

Our tours are led by me, an English-speaking expat, who has a thorough knowledge of Java and Madura, having lived in Indonesia for 25 years, and my co-organizer, Samsul, who comes from East Java. With our outstanding network of local contacts we really know Java. I have written numerous articles on Indonesia for magazines, both in Indonesia and internationally. I was a contributor to the most recent edition of the Rough Guide to Indonesia, and my photographs of Indonesia have been published in a variety of magazines. The tours take you to the real Java beyond the obvious tourist spots providing an opportunity for you to explore at first hand the local culture and the hidden beauty of Java. Benefit from our authoritative and intelligent commentary en route, and see places that many have not. Full profile Leave a Review
