Nightlife in Austin
Nightlife is where Austin shines as a destination; it offers something for everyone! Dirty Sixth Street overruns with cheap drinks and cheesy bars--the whole street shut down to traffic on weekend evenings. East of 35 is a hipster's paradise, with cool kids on fixies circling between trendy bars, food trailers, and shows. On Second Street and in the Warehouse District along Fourth Street, you'll find craft cocktails and beer in the lower key, higher end downtown area. And all that is just in the central area of Austin!
Aside from drinking, Austin also has plenty of nighttime entertainment. Check out the Alamo Drafthouse for special movie screenings, including sing-a-longs, and Master Pancake comedy specials. Or delve into the city's theater scene at with an improv comedy at ColdTowne Theater or a show at Esther's Follies.

Best Clubs
Though Austin has a lot of music and drinking establishments, few meet the bottle service and DJ club criteria. Of those, Haven, Plush, or Barcelona are your best bet. For a hard-drinking, semi-ironic take on the dance club, Barbarella is your place. For gay dance clubs, try Rain or Oilcan Harry's.
For country western music and two-stepping, check out the line-up at the Broken Spoke to immerse yourself in real Texas dance hall culture. If the authentic cowboy scene is too much, the White Horse and Donn's Depot are more accessible alternatives.
Music
Austin's most-famous and most storied music venues have to be Emo's, Antone's, and Stubb's. Check out the line-ups at Mohawk for touring acts that lean indie, Red 7 for punk and hardcore, and the Continental Club for Texas country and rock. Jazz is best at the Elephant Room.
Night Adventures
When there are music shows, fireworks, or other events at Auditorium shores, you can paddle out in a canoe or kayak and partake in the fun without having to wrestle through the crowds. If you like bikes, try the Thursday Night Social Ride, which gathers hundreds of cyclists for an easy-paced ride around town that ends with beer and fun.
