The 18th Century was riddled with decadence, humour, and sin which can be seen in its exaggerated fashions, satires and in London's streets. Today the area is inundated with tourist haunts but in the Georgian era its visitors and locals were doing quite a different type of sightseeing. Beginning with London's highest courtesans who hobnobbed with aristocratic neighbours, we will venture through the century to the back streets where many were born in to the bowels of society. We will visit an altogether well-known part of London which bears a far more salacious past and discover those who rose above it all, laughing; and the many others who fell from grace. We will breathe life back into the taverns and brothels that once supplied London's lecherous appetite and learn where Casanova purchased his... supplies.
We will be walking a fair amount so do remember to wear something comfortable and bring a brolly if it looks like rain!
There are several quaint pubs along the way, feel free to request a stop in one of these charming settings if in need of a moment to refresh yourself!
What was going to be short term, turned into a long standing love affair with London and its history. The stories of those who have walked the same streets I use today keep this city inspiring, invigorating and entertaining. For several years I have guided many a Londoner and Out-of-Towner through the overlooked passages and winding roads, shining light on the city and its constantly evolving façade. Through my tours I hope to introduce you to the characters, visitors and locals who, across the centuries, have all called London home. Full profile ⋅ Leave a Review
