Sightseeing in Las Vegas
What sights? Vegas is a sight. But fake volcanoes (lame) and dancing musical fountains (awesome) are just one part of the visual fever dream this city offers. The desert around the city is definitely worth a drive and new museums dedicated to the Mafia and the history of neon signage offer some structured alternatives to the greatest of all Las Vegas sightseeing activities - people watching.

First-timers
Everyone has to see the Bellagio fountains - they dance and play music every afternoon and night, every fifteen minutes. Another must-see is Fremont Street, home to all the "old Vegas" casinos.
Local Favorites
The mountains and canyons outside Vegas are the city's best kept secret. If you're feeling in more of a Hangover mood try a local favourite casino like the El Cortez, where Jackie Gaughan, the last connection to Old Vegas, still lives and can be seen at the craps table in the evenings.
Self-Guided Tours
Walking the Strip can be done depending on the heat, but you'll need a car to go any further. Downtown, to the North of the Strip, is much more manageable and is the new hipster hotspot.
Views
The Rio and The Palms have restaurants and bars with great views of Strip. The Stratosphere is the highest point in town and you can watch bungee jumpers fall past the windows. Head out to the suburban center of Summerlin for distant views of the Strip and the gorgeous Red Rock Canyon.
