About Adventure in New York City
New York may be a testament to all things man-made, but its pedestrian nature means New Yorkers often spend more time outdoors than car-reliant suburbanites do. Where do they go for downtime? City parks, where you can find endless outdoor activities from pick-up soccer games to summer concerts headlined by major acts. Central Park is Olmsted and Vaux’s most famous green oasis, but they considered Brooklyn’s Prospect Park the emerald jewel in their crown. Even today you can sink your toes into the grass of the Long Meadow and not see a single building, even though you’re in standing the city’s most populous borough. You can swim, kayak, scuba dive, sail and fish from New York's waterfronts, from Gateway National Recreational Area to Riverside Park. Day trips from the city include hiking in the Hudson Valley and exploring vineyards on Long Island. Want to kick back while others do the hard work? Get tix for the Yankees, Mets, Jets or Nets.
