Happy Holidays from Vayable!

What happens when you bring together a sommelier, a crepe maker, a portrait artist, and the vibrant characters that represent San Francisco? A Vayable night full of conversation, laughter, and ideas. The Vayable secret holiday party last week in our home base of San Francisco was an incredible gathering of travelers, guides, and friends.

With the holidays about us, it’s a good time to celebrate the gifts within us all that help to make this world so vibrant and full of character. Our community is the soul of Vayable, and everyone is a co-creator in this journey to bring about a more personal world where passion for cities, cultures, and discovery are celebrated. The Vayable experience was brought to life within the walls of Terroir, a beautiful wine bar in the SOMA district of San Francisco.

Secret Party in New York City @ The Back Room

Mix a connoisseur of the best treats in Chinatown, a rooftop bar hopper and a foodie from Queens and you get what only a New York Vayable community can serve-up – some great New York insider tips and a lovely meet-up. These were just some of the tour guides that attended the Vayable family meet-up at the Back Room, the Lower East Side speakeasy.

Sipping on signature cocktails from tea cups in the Victorian-styled bar, our CEO, Jamie, who had flown in from San Francisco, and the New York tour guides, talked about their wonderful tours and got to know others passionate about New York.

After a lovely night, Jeffrey mentioned he was leading his infamous tastes of Queens tour the next day and extended an invitation to the other tour guides of New York. Clearly this meet-up is has just been the catalyst in bringing together the ever-growing New York Vayable family!

The Sharing Economy in San Francisco

As a hub of technological development and innovation, San Francisco is oftentimes the breeding ground for entirely new industries and economies. As these new economies grow, the city inevitably becomes involved in issues that other local governments have never before had to experience. Just last week, there was a hearing at City Hall to discuss a proposal to charge residents who rent rooms out on Airbnb the same taxes that commercial hotels have to pay.

This week, representatives from the city as well as the founders from select companies in the space will discuss the social, economic, and environmental impact of the sharing economy. Jamie Wong, the CEO of Vayable will be on the panel along with TaskRabbit, Getaround, Airbnb, and Jay Nath (chief innovation officer of the City of San Francisco).

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, April 3 at 6 PM for this evening forum.

654 Mission Street,
San Francisco, CA 94105-4015

Obviously we’re huge fans of sharing, and we are honored to be part of decisions that can change the future of San Francisco and also the world! We hope to see you all there! In the meantime, feel free to write us with your thoughts.

Back to the Future with Airbnb, Vayable, Getaround

We had a blast in Austin with all of you at our party co-hosted with Airbnb and Getaround! We were able to meet many of you and would like to thank everyone who came out despite the rain to meet us! If we didn’t get a chance to meet you, please always feel free to contact us at community@vayable.com to say hi or to ask for a t-shirt .

We had special guest appearances by DJ Kidhack, the Getaround Tesla, and a Delorean! Thanks so much for celebrating the future of travel with us, where we share our resources and expertise. Back to the Future was an ode to old school travel because that was the way things were done in the past before a time of chain hotels and rental car agencies. Enjoy the pictures!

Also, a special thanks to our sponsors that helped to make the party a smashing success: TaskRabbit, Moonshine Whiskey, Pecan Street Rum, Famous Vodka, PretzelCrisps, and Tracks!

A Vayable Idea: A Talk on Homelessness and Community Mixer

Last night we had a wonderful event at 111 Minna! Over two hundred people showed up, and we were really delightfully surprised about the great turnout! We love seeing people from our community connecting and mingling with one another!

The event featured Milton Aparicio, our amazing and inspiring guide who lives in a homeless shelter and works tirelessly every day trying to improve the lives of other homeless people. He gave a great talk about realities of homelessness and what we can do to improve the situation. You can check out his walking tour of the Tenderloin here!

Thanks to everyone for taking some time out of their evening to come support us! We’d especially like to thank the people who most graciously and generously made this possible: 111 Minna for letting us use their venue, ZeroCater for donating the delicious food, and Hospitality House and Glide for providing amazing services for the homeless.

A Vayable Idea: Street Art Talk and Community Mixer

Last night, we had an amazing event at Galería de la Raza featuring our Scout for Street Art tour guide, Russell Howze. Set in the middle of tons of beautiful and colorful murals, there was a gorgeous indoor graffiti exhibit as well as other pieces featuring diverse artists. Our amazing guides as well as members of our community came out to mix, mingle, and meet one another!

Russell gave an inspiring talk about how street art came to be popular and his ideas for how the city should support instead of criminalize visually compelling street art. He even signed a copy of his book for Jareau, who we share office space with! Everyone shared their wish list for San Francisco experiences, which we (unintentionally) made vague. Some hilarious things on there were “more dirt,” “more trees,” “no cars,” “repeal Sit-Lie,” and “free Muni.” We might not be able to make those happen, but we are working hard to discover amazing new experiences every day!

We were so excited to meet some of our great guides including Rob the tye die connoisseur, Jamie the street food expert, Topher the used bookworm, and the Tim the biker! Here are some pictures from last night’s bunch of some of the most vibrant individuals in the Bay Area!

Night Market Party: a Vayable success.

We had a BLAST with all the amazing folks who came out to our community marketplace party in SOMA, San Francisco last night! We were deeply inspired by all the sharing, caring, drinking and dancing that took place.

It was certainly a night full of surprises.

We had guest appearances by a fortune teller, fire dancer and a belly dancer. Other hightlights included delicious waffles sponsored by our friends at Airbnb, beers delivered on romote control trucks, provided by our carpooling comrades at Zimride, a hook-up tent pitched by our buddies at SnapGoods and a Tesla smack in the middle of the dance floor, provided by our friends at Getaround.

The best part of the night? Hanging with awesome Vayable guides, Evan, Gabe and Rob (who came with kickass homemade Vayable sweatshirts-thanks, Rob!!)

Enjoy a video of the lovely people from Vayable and Airbnb going nuts in the Airbnb bouncy house.

…and the Getaround Tesla arriving in style.

A special thanks to our fellow community marketplace friends for helping us host a memorable night!

Vayable Party: Night Market

“By day the hottest marketplace startups. By night, even hotter.”

We have teamed up with our friends at Thumbtack.com to put together an amazing party featuring the marketplace startups we love and adore.

The party – Night Market – will feature 16 of the hottest marketplace startups, including marketplaces for accommodations (Airbnb.com), cars (GetAround.com), labor-on-demand (Crowdflower.com), networking (BranchOut.com), and even collectibles (Crave.com).

Each startup will demo their product in a creative way at the party: a bouncy castle, Asian cocktails, Tesla rides, red lanterns, Kung Fu, a photo booth, gongs, a waffle truck, clothing swaps, and round-the-world twister. And there will be some awesome surprises. (One involves a sword. One involves fire.)

The party is this Wednesday, June 1, 2025 and starts at sundown (8pm) at our new Thumbtack.com HQ (454 Natoma St, SOMA).

All 300 tickets are sold out, but the waitlist can be joined at Eventbrite (we will be releasing tickets the day of the event).

Members of the press are invited to join a half hour early (7:30pm) for pre-party drinks and interviews with the founders of the startups.

See our press release for the full list of startups and all the details of the party.
