London on Two Wheels
Details
It's London like you've never seen it before. Say goodbye to the sweaty tube and the gridlocked bus – we're getting in the saddle.
The first part of the tour will be a brief introduction to Barclays Cycle Hire. Pick up one of the 8,000 bikes parked in docking stations across London, and then ride for free. The scheme can be a bit complicated, but I'll talk you through it (and tell you how to pick out the most comfortable bike from the rack!).
And what a great city to do it in – London has more green space than almost any other European capital (almost two-thirds of the city is green).
I have a set route, mixing green (parkland) and grey (architecture). But if you have any special requests, we may be able to accomodate them. We will take a five minute break every 30 minutes because of a strange rule with the bike hire scheme (all will be explained).
If you've never cycled in London before, you have nothing to worry about – we'll stay off road, and take the back streets to explore some of London's most beautiful cycle routes. Even if you haven't been in the saddle since you were a kid, you'll pick it up again in no time – you never forget how to ride a bike, right?
I've test-ridden this tour with three novice cyclists, and all of them got the knack of cycling again in no time. We will take it at your pace – if you're a more experienced biker, we'll cover more ground, if not, we'll go slowly, stopping whenever you feel the need.
And after the tour is finished, you'll be able to keep riding for the next 24 hours for free!
