The tour is set to book with a minimu $39 commitment. if your party is less that three, simply book the tour as a party of three to reserve.

The tour convenes near Hayes and Octavia Streets where a bicycle rental company is located. The city bikeshare program is another good bet for renting bikes for a half day.

Enjoy a tour of S.F.'s most artsy and entrepreneurial neighborhoods -- Hayes Valley, Dolores Park, and the Inner Mission -- as we snack at the city's three premier independent ice creameries while learning about each of the quirky neighborhoods they are home to.

On this two- to three-hour tour (depending on length of wait to be served our ice cream), we'll discuss San Francisco's policies that promote independent businesses, we'll bicycle along the fire line of the Great Fire of 1906 and note how its architecture fluctuates betweeen 19th century Victorians and Reconstruction-era Edwardians.

Finally, we'll touch on the socio-economic history of these three happening, up-and-coming neighborhoods and their boom-bust cycles. There will be plenty of opportunities for people watching, hipster spotting, mural photographing, and basking in the warm sun that these neighborhoods are famed for.

Cost includes bicycle ice cream tour, lots of good observations and tips on where to visit and where to live in the city, one or two jokes you may not find particularly funny. A gratuity at the end of the tour is appreciated but entirely optional. All proceeds from the tour will go to support FM KPOO, the city's black community radio station.

Community Planner, Economist, and Journalist by schooling, I make my living in public policy, natural resources management, and city planning. My interests include San Francisco's rich alternative arts scene and sampling its seriously-good culinary and imbibing offerings. My musical tastes are all over the map but tend to lean toward jazz, country, rock, and electonica. When I'm not in the city I'm likely to be hiking nearby in the Bay Area or backpacking the Sierras. I have completed a rigorous training program on San Francisco's history, culture, and architecture in order to gain docenting and tour guide credentials for the Bay Area's premier preservation society. I have been with this preservation society in a volunteer capacity since 2004 and served a term on its volunteer advisory committee. Full profile Leave a Review
