Located in one of Lisbon’s seven hills, Alfama is the Castle's neighbourhood. The authenticity and intensity of Alfama, with its Kasbah-like layout, strict conventions and communitarian lifestyle, are hard to find in any other European capital. Since here is where the city had its origins, numerous historical traces of our invaders can still be found (not in a museum, but rather in stones used to build a house or in a narrow street that no one notices). Nowadays it is inhabited by a very closed and engrained community, which makes it a little village inside the town... Come along in our walking tour, which will focus essentially in the sociologic and anthropologic aspects of this peculiar micro-society!
Our small group is composed by Salvador (architect, 21), Constança (economist, 21) and Andre (geographer, 49). All three of us are travelers, and we've been working together as guides in Lisbon for over a year now. We like to think about our tours as rather original in their format and content.
