Azeitão, Portugal

The Portuguese Country Experience

I am retired and live on a sheep farm, half an hour from Lisbon in a beautiful National Park area. We have a cheese museum and offer workshops teaching people how sheep cheese was made in small dairies - it can be fun, and there is a cheese tasting to follow. Also a simple lunch can be organized if requested. However, there are many local taverns with typical food close by. I know the area very well and we have many interesting castles, gardens and palaces within 30 minutes of the farm. Wonderful beaches very close, and little seafood restaurants on the beach are always fun, and at low tide long walks are possible. Price would depend on what you are looking for: a full day's outing, a morning, a few hours. Which ever you chose we will make it fun and interesting!

I have been to this farm a few times, and have enjoyed it every time. You feel you are truly part of the farm's experience, and everyone is so friendly and helpful. It is certified organic, which adds an extra value to the traditions they maintain and innovations they seek. Well worth a visit!

Fantastic, rustic and charming! Don't forget to swim in the huge, deep irrigation dam, and to eat home-made cheese at the long table in the courtyard on a warm summer evening. If you need advice on beaches, food, fishing or surfing, Filipa will make a plan!

We visited this farm on a family trip and enjoyed it immensely, Welcomed into the large courtyard you feel part of the farm immediately. The cheese museum was a favorite and it was fascinating to see how this delicious cheese is made. Filipa is a fountain of knowledge and wonderful to be around. It is a gem to stay in as your visit the area. Book immediately!

I can't wait to go back! The children just will not stop talking about the "quinta", and we thoroughly enjoyed our day, learning about the "Azeitao" cheese, tasting it afterwards and meeting Filipa! See you soon!

The Quinta also has a small donkey sanctuary which children (and most adults) enjoy. The last time I visited a family of Vietnamese pigs were happily in residence. The food is excellent as Filipa's cooking is legendary. In the cheese museum, which is well worth a visit, there are usually fresh organic eggs and oranges and lemons etc available to buy. Filipa's elderflower cordial is delicious and is snapped up as soon as the season starts. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the Arrabida beaches and hills are the best kept secret in Portugal
