Montevideo has seen a growth in the street art scene in recent years. Street artists from all over the world have left their marks in graffiti, brush painting and stencil. Street artists decorate the city's walls with colorful drawings, each with their own style.

See some of the coolest street art murals in Montevideo, learn about their meaning and the up and coming artists behind them. Montevideo street art is on the rise, not far behind the other great South American cities such as Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.

We will start this alternative tour in Ciudad Vieja and from there we'll take you to the not-so-touristy yet still fascinating areas of the city while you will travel around town in public buses like the locals do and become one of us.

The tour lasts about 3.5 hours and it's mixed walking with public transportation. Empanadas, Water and bus fares included.

Our head tour guide, Bruno, was born in the city of Mercedes, Uruguay. At the age of 7 his family moved to Montevideo, where he grew up and fell in love with the city. Bruno has also lived in the US and Brazil. Therefore, he speaks fluent Spanish, English and Portuguese. He has traveled through several countries in the Caribbean, Europe and South America, and understands what a visitor expects from a city tour. After living in the United States for more than 12 years, he decided to relocate to Montevideo, where his heart is. Really informative and interesting tour. Bruno was a terrific guide - knowledgeable about the artists and the city and very personable as well. Just what we wanted - we saw things we never would have encountered on our own. Highly recommended!

Being a lover of art, I was pleasantly surprised to find that in my travel to Uruguay that there is a tour that focuses on a hidden gem in cities-street art. This was another great tour from MVD Walking Tours. The day after we took the city tour we decided to take the street art tour. Who knew that Montevideo was full of talented artists. Bruno knew the coolest spots to go to and I was able to take some great pics of street art. This is a tour that anyone can appreciate and enjoy.
