From art and culture up to gastronomic excellence. Bologna, chief town of the Italian Region Emilia-Romagna, is known worldwide as "La Dotta" ("The Learned" because it was home to the first university in Europe founded in 1088, even Dante and Petrarch can be numbered among its former students and the 100, 000 students enrolled nowadays make it a lively and cosmopolitan place), "La Grassa" ("The Fat" thanks to reputedly the best cuisine in Italy), "La Rossa" ("The Red" referring to both the colour of its brick buildings and its politics) and "La Turrita" ("The Towered" for the presence of 24 towers of the 100 built in the city around the XII century). The tour will show you the reason why Bologna is known in Italy and abroad as dotta, rossa, turrita and … grassa. The best way to explore the city is on foot, taking time to admire the architecture and see the wonderful food that you're sure to find. The tour starts at Piazza Maggiore with its main buildings: the City Hall, the Podestà Palace, the Neptune's Fountain, the King Enzo's Palace, the Sala Borsa (closed on Sundays), the Basilica of Saint Petronio (visit inside according to opening hours and services), one of the biggest churches in the world and the only one with the longest sundial in Europe. The tour continues with the Archiginnasio, the first seat of the University of Bologna. Walk through the historical Mercato di Mezzo (Food Market) up to the two leaning towers and the Seven Churches Complex (visit inside according to opening hours and services).

My name is Manuela and I’m a professional licensed tour guide in Mantua (It.Mantova), Ferrara, Bologna, Modena and Parma. I was born in the middle of the Po Valley on the border between Lombardy and Emilia Romagna Regions, and it was natural for me to become a licensed guide in both regions. I'm a mix of the two cultures I get along with the Lombard pragmatism and the Emilian jovial and open minded lifestyle. But from both cultures, above anything else, I have taken the best: culture, history, art and …why not … good food and wines! I love showing people the best these cities and their provinces can offer. Follow me and you will discover not only beautiful squares and ancient buildings, but also less known city corners, everyday life stories and the reason why this area is called the “Italian Food Valley”. I love enjoying the wonder of my guests while I'm talking about art and history, looking at their open mouthed faces, see their surprising eyes and hear their exciting comments and, last but not least, … their delight in looking, smelling and tasting our typical products. I can provide private guided tours for Individuals, families, small and big groups, school groups, walking day and night tours and … custom-made tours.
