Sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh City
Many of Saigon's popular sites are military-related--from the War Remnants Museums to martyr monuments to hidden weapons stash. But if you want to see beyond the well-worn paths to war memorials, Saigon also offers a rich array of cultural venues. Here is a list of some of this city's most interesting sites, both related to war and beyond.

First-timers
Pho Binh (7 Ly Chinh Thang, District 3). Downstairs, this restaurant serves traditional beef noodle soup. Slurp up your broth and head upstairs, which exhibits the secret location where operatives met to mastermind the 1968 Tet Offensive.
Local Favorites
Giac Vien Pagoda (161/35/20 Lac Long Quan, District 11). Built in 1789, this pagoda is one of Vietnam's best surviving Linji Zen Buddhist sanctuaries. Come early in the morning for one of Saigon's most serene experiences--which is a true gift in such a crowded city.
Self-Guided Tours
Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum (97A Pho Duc Chinh, District 1). Locals believe that this building, once the mansion headquarters of a Chinese property business, is haunted by the ghost of a young woman.
Views
For phenomenal views of the cityscape, head to the Chill Bar (76A Le Lai, District 1) or the Skydeck of the Saigon's highest building, the Bitexco Financial Tower (Ha Trieu, Ho Tung Mao, Ngo Duc Ke Streets, District 1). Both are pricey--Chill Bar requires buying an expensive drink and the Skydeck has a 200,000 VND cover charge (~$10 USD).
