Somerset Maugham called la Rambla “the most beautiful street in the world” and now it’s your chance to discover this bustling artery of Barcelona and learn the secrets and stories behind its world-famous sights.
For example, did you know that there are actually not one but five Ramblas? Or that in the olden days the boulevard was called “el cagallel”, which means a “poo stream”? Or that George Orwell used to fight from the top of one of Rambla’s iconic buildings during the Spanish Civil War?
On this tour we will ramble down la Rambla from the top to the bottom and explore the history, current affairs, art, culture, and architecture of Barcelona through the lens of its most popular street. Highlights include:
• The magic fountain of Canaletes
• Hemingway’s favourite cocktail bar
• The Palace of La Virreina – known as “the palace of the lucky bride)
• Boqueria market
• Miro’s painting
• Moja Palace – the extravagant residence of Marquis de Comillas
• The cursed theatre of Liceu
• Royal Square
• Columbus monument
• Many more incredible sights and fascinating stories on the way!

Having lived in many different places in Europe and overseas I first came to Spain as an exchange student a few years ago and immediately fell in love with this fascinating and diverse country. After graduating from Oxford I moved to Barcelona to work in academic research but found the office environment too stifling and missing in human contact so I decided to pursue my passion for travel, languages, history, culture, and working with people by becoming a Local Guide and a freelance European Tour Director. My first occupation allows me to share my genuine enthusiasm for Barcelona and Catalonia and excellent knowledge of its art, history, architecture, current affairs, cuisine and culture with visitors from all over the world. In my second role I travel all around Europe on a regular basis so whether you are looking for the best classical music concert in Vienna, the strongest espresso in Sorrento, the most picturesque mountain view in Lucerne, or even just a way of avoiding queues to the Eiffel Tower - I am your local expert. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and let me help you create a Catalan, Spanish or European holiday of your dreams! Full profile ⋅ Leave a Review
