This tour leads you off the beaten track on a journey through the vibrant, libertarian, eclectic and multicultural district of Raval. Known in the past as the hub for drugs, disease, crime and prostitution, it has recently cleaned up its act and has now become the international melting pot of Barcelona, the hotspot for bohemian lifestyle, and home to a variety of subcultures and alternative movements in art, music, fashion and architecture.
We will admire the famous Fat Cat on the boulevard of Rambla del Raval, pay homage to the granddaddy of Barcelona's churches Sant Pau del Camp, visit the hospital where Gaudi spent the last three days of his life, roam around the Chinese Quarter, explore the Broadway of Barcelona, window-shop at the local fashion boutiques of the Tallers street, and finish our tour with a drink at the oldest cocktail bar in the city - the one and only Boades, frequented by Hemingway and Orwell.
In the evening this tour can be combined with a visit to the traditional and authentic absinthe bar, Marsella - arguably the oldest bar in Barcelona and the favourite hangout place of Gaudi, Dali, Hemingway and Picasso as well as one of the settings for "Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona".

Having lived in many different places in Europe and overseas I first came to Spain as an exchange student a few years ago and immediately fell in love with this fascinating and diverse country. After graduating from Oxford I moved to Barcelona to work in academic research but found the office environment too stifling and missing in human contact so I decided to pursue my passion for travel, languages, history, culture, and working with people by becoming a Local Guide and a freelance European Tour Director. My first occupation allows me to share my genuine enthusiasm for Barcelona and Catalonia and excellent knowledge of its art, history, architecture, current affairs, cuisine and culture with visitors from all over the world. In my second role I travel all around Europe on a regular basis so whether you are looking for the best classical music concert in Vienna, the strongest espresso in Sorrento, the most picturesque mountain view in Lucerne, or even just a way of avoiding queues to the Eiffel Tower - I am your local expert. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and let me help you create a Catalan, Spanish or European holiday of your dreams! Full profile
