South Bay Wine Hike

Details

I first discovered this winery on a hike through the lush oak woodlands with my friend Jess. Out for a walk amongst the beautiful fall foliage we never expected to find a winery at the end of our hike, but a small sign pointing us the a rustic winery in the hills was a sweet surprise. The winery is a historic building dating to 1877 and has been making California wines since that time. Fall is my favorite time of year to take people on this hike. (Near San Jose and San Francisco Bay Area)

Itinerary

We can choose the more challenging Zinfandel Trail with views of the surrounding valley or the shorter Bear Meadow Trail which passes a seasonal pond, a favorite stop for kids. After a walk around the historic grounds, a tasting and a small snack we will head back to the trailhead via either trail. The $10 tasting fee is optional, but highly recommended, as the wines are excellent and our friends on staff provide an intimate knowledge of the history of the winery as well as the wines.
