Boston boasts many historic sites to visit. Among the most popular are the old cemeteries that exist here. Three of the most famous are Copp’s Hill Burying Ground, King’s Chapel Burying Ground and the Old Granary Burying Ground. Many of the most famous people of Boston as well as some of those most responsible for the beginnings of our new nation are laid to rest here such as Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock.
Across the Charles River in Cambridge lies Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Although there are more than 93,000 people buried here, it’s much more than a burial ground. It was designed to be a place where anyone could come and enjoy the peaceful and beautiful surroundings, strolling its’ more than 10 miles of roads and paths. It’s also a favorite place for both ornithologists and horticulturists, with thousands of very well-kept shrubs, trees and herbaceous plants on its’ hills, ponds, woodlands and clearings. To top it off, the cemetery lists 183 famous people interred here.
I'm happily married for many years. I am the father of two and the grandfather of three. I retired about two years ago from positions as a special education teacher's assistant and as a Court Investigator for the State of Massachusetts. I grew up in the Boston area and have always had a strong interest not only in local history, but history in general. This interest led me into researching my genealogy and I've been working on that for almost 30 years. My other interests include reading, photography and old television shows.
