Sightseeing in Oslo
Sightseeing: Oslo is a relatively small city, best explored by bike or by foot (though the sightseeing city buses seem to draw a crowd). The islands in the Oslo fjord are beatuful and easily accessible by public transport all year round.

First-timers
In summer, the island of Hovedøya is a local favorite, Langøyene is popular for camping (and its free), all of them are worth a visit. The boat to Bygdøy will also take you to the viking ship museums and the adventurer Thor Heyerdahl´s Kon Tiki. Not to be missed is Vigeland´s parken, full of naked and vigourous statues by Henrik Vigeland. The park in itself is beautiful and with only a few rays of sun, it soon fills up with Norwegians hungry for warm weather. There is a pool nearby with the city´s only slides, excellent for warm days.
In the winter, get hold of some cross country skis (or just walk) take the t-bane (metro) to Frognerseteren in the north or Skullerud in the east and enjoy Norwegian winter activites.
Oslo's most popular toboggan run starts at Frognerseteren and ends at Midtstuen metro station, you take the metro up and slide down. So much fun!
Local Favorites
Going to the islands in the summer is a must for most, while sneaking into the city´s public pools at night is a popular local activity. In the winter, wer´re all about cross country skiing or tobogganing, both which can be done pretty much anywhere if there is enough snow downtown. If not, take the subway. You will feel Norwegian in an instant!
Self-Guided Tours
You can walk up Akerselva, the river that literally divides the city´s east and west, and you will walk through the more rowdy downtown neighbourhood of Grønland and up through more bohemian Grunerløkka, Thorsov and Nydalen, where the new businesschool is situated. Keep walking and you´ll enter the forrest and Frysja, a beautful small lake where you can swim in the summer. You can also take the subway to Nordmarka and go hiking to various cabins around the forrest, offering Norwegian waffles and hot toddy.
Views
The best views are either from Ekeberg, where Edward Munch painted his famous The Scream, or from the wealthiest part of town in Holmenkollåsen, where there is a ski jump you can climb up, but not ski down.
