Great Wall & Ming Emperor Tomb Discovery

Mutianyu Great Wall built mainly with granite, the wall is 7–8.5 metres high and the top is 4–5 metres wide. Compared with other sections of Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall possesses unique characteristics in its construction. Watchtowers are densely placed along this section of the Great Wall - 22 watchtowers on this 2,250-metre-long stretch. Both the outer and inner parapets are crenelated with merlons, so that shots could be fired at the enemy on both sides - a feature very rare on other parts of the Great Wall.
The Mutianyu Pass consists of 3 watchtowers, one big in the centre and two smaller on both sides. Standing on the same terrace, the three watchtowers are connected to each other inside and compose a rarely seen structure among all sections of Great Wall. In the front part of the imperial necropolises, there usually is a Sacred Way (or Divine Road) which means the road leading to heaven. The Emperor, known as the Son of the Heaven, who came from Heaven to his country through the Sacred Way, also deservedly would return to Heaven through this road.

Pick up at 8:00am and proceed to visit Mutianyu Great Wall. The Mutianyu Great Wall is known for its beautiful surroundings - dense woods and rich pastures changing colors with the seasons of the year. There are 20 towers (numbered from right to left) on the Mutianyu Great Wall snaking the ridge for about 3000 meters. You may take a cable car up to the wall (optional) or climb up if you have strong legs. You have 2 hours on the wall. You may climb down or take a cable car or a toboggan slide down (optional).

After chinese lunch, move on to Sacred Way(also known as Spirit Way, Divine Road, or Holy Way)in Changping District. On the way to Sacred Way, you will enjoy the scenic villages, river, and trees. In the front of imperial tombs, there used to be a Sacred Way, the road leading to heaven since the Emperor was known as the Son of the Heaven, who came from Heaven to his country through the Sacred Way. Return to your hotel around 6:00pm.
