Mutianyu Great Wall built mainly with granite, the wall is 7–8.5 metres high and the top is 4–5 metres wide. Compared with other sections of Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall possesses unique characteristics in its construction. Watchtowers are densely placed along this section of the Great Wall - 22 watchtowers on this 2,250-metre-long stretch. Both the outer and inner parapets are crenelated with merlons, so that shots could be fired at the enemy on both sides - a feature very rare on other parts of the Great Wall.
Chunhuiyuan Hot Spring Resort's springhead is Xiaotangshan hot spring. Xiaotangshan has been famous for its hot springs for over 300 years. Local legend has it that the imperial family of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) went there to relax. The temperature of water here ranges from 29 C to 90 C. People have used hot spring water in therapeutic baths for more than 200 years to treat rheumatism and other ailments. For foreign tourists, this is perhaps one of the most memorable cultural experiences and it will certainly spoil you.
Pick up from hotel around 8:30am. Transfer to Mutianyu Great Wall by car. The Mutianyu section has its own characteristics. The coping on both sides of the wall has parapets and battlements, which made it possible to repel foes from either side. The bases of the indented battlements have square holes arched at the top from which soldiers shot at the besiegers.
Lunch in a special characteristic restaurant. After lunch, drive to Chunhuiyuan Hot Springs Resort for about 2 hours' spa bathing at the hot springs pools. After enjoying the hot spring bath at outdoor public soaking pools, drive back to your hotel.
