Austin is known for its unique public art. Get a behind the scenes look at some of my favorite pieces and hear about the inspiration behind sculptures directly from their creators.
I created much of the public art in Austin and am friends with most of the other public artists in the area. I can share stories from behind the scenes about the creation of each of the works that we will be seeing.
On this tour, we will drive through South Austin, stopping at several of the best known public art pieces in the SoCo area, including the "Bat Sculpture", a kinetic bat with a thirty foot wingspan that has become an Austin favorite and "Casa Neverlandia", a mosaic house that looks like it came straight from a fairy tale!
Travel and a knowledgeable guide!
An Austin resident for thirty years, I have been a vital part of the public art scene. I am passionate about art and its effect upon our culture. Austin has long been recognized for its creative and relaxed atmosphere which has been shaped by its public art and vice versa. I'm happy to be Austin's art ambassador! I have a studio in East Austin where I teach and fabricate art. While my working studio is not fully open to the public, I'm happy to teach a few students occasionally. Full profile
