Visit the best dive bars in Austin, meet longtime locals and find out why people say Austinites are the friendliest people around!
If you want to keep Austin weird, check out these gems and support Austin's local economy. Plus, you'll feel like you've lived here your whole life by the end of the night.
As many of these as we can fit in (we can prioritize by your interest):
~Dallas Night Club, where you can practically drink for free while two-stepping.
~Ginny's Little Longhorn, which looks like it was once a small old church, now home of the best rockabilly, swing, and country music in Austin.
~La-la's, the smokey land of year-round Christmas. Not good if you really hate cigarette smoke, but it's definitely interesting! Great jukebox, pool, and locals. Apparently, Quentin Tarantino's favorite bar.
~Common Interest, karaoke bar with free, high-quality karaoke suites. Super current song list and nice screens.
~Buddy's Place, where you never know what's going to be going on, but you know the drinks are cheap, everyone's local, and there's free shuffleboard. Often has AMAZING music.
~Poodle Dog Lounge, shuffleboard, pool, cheap drinks. If it looks familiar, it's because it's the pool hall in "Dazed and Confused."
Most of the bars are cash only and do "set-ups," which means they don't sell liquor, but will allow you to bring your own and they will sell you mixers. Awesome.
Transportation included.
I moved to Austin in 1993 and have never mustered the willpower to stay away any longer than 3 months because I am in love with my city! I love the live music, the street festivals, the green areas, the cheap, hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex, the vibrant nightlife and the friendly people. Austin has made me who I am: a health nut, a yogi, a paddleboarder, a kayaker, dodgeballer, a hippie, a hipster, a yuppie, a boot camp obsessor, a flavor-of-the-monther. I am a true Austinite! I shop and eat local, haven't set foot in a Walmart in so long I forgot what I'd do there, volunteer at farmer's markets and gardens, and ask any lost tourist if I can help them. I've also been a driver for hire, Getaround car renter, an AirBnBer, and love to make my town blossom for people visiting the ever-changing, ever-exciting city of Austin.
