Sunday Funday ALL DAY like a local! Experience Austin's finest and weirdest from "old Austin" to new. Perfect if you want to meet people and love live music!
Start with Hippie Church: Tex-Mex breakfast at one of South Lamar's most famous restaurants. Hippie church includes gospel music, dancing, authentic Tex-Mex and world-class margaritas!
After, I will give you recommendations based on the calendar. Your pick
Finally, we will wrap it up at Ginny's Little Longhorn for a bingo game unlike any you've ever seen. You can meet Ginny, enjoy cheap beers or setups, and make some friendly wagers on a chicken eating corn. Dale Watson is normally performing, at a fun weekly event featured on CNN.
If availability allows (private residence), we'll take a quick tour of Austin's Cathedral of Junk, a shrine to salvage made nationally famous since the 90s.
10:30 am - Pickup
11 am - Arrive at Maria's Taco Xpress for Hippie Church. Eat, drink, enjoy music and dancing.
1-2pm - Possibly visit Cathedral of Junk, if it is open (this is a private residence). Tour a completely weird and amazing building made out of salvaged materials.
2pm - Arrive at bar or activity we chose!
4pm - Arrive at Ginny's Little Longhorn for more cheap drinks, live music and dancing, and a very weird kind of bingo. Usually there are free chili dogs, too. Yum!
6pm - Return back to hotel to get ready for your evening activities.
Transportation to and from the downtown area is included. Yay, DD!
Food and drinks are not included and can be purchased separately. I recommend bringing cash for Ginny's Little Longhorn.
Dress comfortably for the weather, as we may be outside. Bring a bathing suit and towel as there may be opportunity to get wet, especially at Lucy's.
Substitutions within the general downtown vicinity can be made at your request, especially if one location is overly crowded or just not your cup of tea.
I moved to Austin in 1993 and have never mustered the willpower to stay away any longer than 3 months because I am in love with my city! I love the live music, the street festivals, the green areas, the cheap, hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex, the vibrant nightlife and the friendly people. Austin has made me who I am: a health nut, a yogi, a paddleboarder, a kayaker, dodgeballer, a hippie, a hipster, a yuppie, a boot camp obsessor, a flavor-of-the-monther. I am a true Austinite! I shop and eat local, haven't set foot in a Walmart in so long I forgot what I'd do there, volunteer at farmer's markets and gardens, and ask any lost tourist if I can help them. I've also been a driver for hire, Getaround car renter, an AirBnBer, and love to make my town blossom for people visiting the ever-changing, ever-exciting city of Austin. Full profile
