Austin's "Greenbelt" is a unique treasure: a large wilderness with varied terrain and lovely scenery with trails following a creek. It has an "away-from-the-city" feel even though it's in the middle of the city.
The hike will be tailored to the physicality of the participants, but in general, the Greenbelt is a beginner's hike, suitable for children and older adults. It's also a great place to get some pictures on your vacation and I'd be happy to help you with these!
Cool off afterward with some beer and Tex-Mex or BBQ!
I'll provide cold water, granola bars, insect spray and towels. I can also bring a cooler on request if you want to bring a picnic.
Transportation from downtown can be arranged.
I moved to Austin in 1993 and have never mustered the willpower to stay away any longer than 3 months because I am in love with my city! I love the live music, the street festivals, the green areas, the cheap, hole-in-the-wall Tex-Mex, the vibrant nightlife and the friendly people. Austin has made me who I am: a health nut, a yogi, a paddleboarder, a kayaker, dodgeballer, a hippie, a hipster, a yuppie, a boot camp obsessor, a flavor-of-the-monther. I am a true Austinite! I shop and eat local, haven't set foot in a Walmart in so long I forgot what I'd do there, volunteer at farmer's markets and gardens, and ask any lost tourist if I can help them. I've also been a driver for hire, Getaround car renter, an AirBnBer, and love to make my town blossom for people visiting the ever-changing, ever-exciting city of Austin.
