The Santa Marta´s Favela was the first to receive a Pacifying Police Unit by the end of 2008, putting a definitive end in drug traffic and the parallel power of the drug lords over the community.

With it´s 75 years old, the Santa Marta´s Favela is built at Dona Marta´s Hill, located between the neighborhoods of Botafogo and Laranjeiras. This hill is in front of and below Christ, The Redeemer and, because of it´s inclined angle, gives us an amazing and unique of the city at it´s top.

Itinerary

The visited will be guided by a local resident of the community, that helped to create the project “Rio Top Tour”, that belongs to the State´s Government and since 2007 offer tours, hikings and rides at Santa Marta. The local guide gives a more authentic tour, as he lives the reality of the place and knows everything that really happens.

This visit will take you to the main spots of the community, and it´s history will be told all along this ways that already received celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Vin Diesel, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Keys and many others.
